I’m Nicky—a software engineer, amateur microscopist and astrophotographer documenting what I learn along the way.
A personal observatory

Micro Cosmic began as a place to bring two hobbies together: photographing organisms that are easy to overlook and distant objects that are almost impossible to comprehend.
Software engineering gives me another way into both subjects. I enjoy understanding systems, building interactive models and turning a complicated process into something other people can explore for themselves.
This site is an evolving record rather than a finished collection. Every image, equipment note and simulation reflects something I have tried, observed or learned.
Light across distance
Smart telescopes and image-processing tools make it possible to collect faint light from nebulae, galaxies and the Moon—even from a modest setup and a great deal of curiosity.
